(Journal #6) 6th Day of Class

During are 6th meeting day in our class Prof. Arvin discussed the Database Modeling Concepts and Technologies that is all about how Database Management System works. A database management system (DBMS) is system software for creating and managing databases. The DBMS provides users and programmers with a systematic way to create, retrieve, update and manage data. As what Prof. Arvin told us DBMS is not just a single and simple concept,it is a collaboration of application to application, sequel to sequel and application to other DBMS.

Their is a Hierarchy of Data Organization, which starts from the smallest part which is the BIT refers to the binary digit to BYTE refers to the Character,it is a group of bits defined by an encoding system to FIELD which is referring to word or data element to RECORD which is the group of related fields to FILE which is the collection of related records until it came to the biggest part which is the DATABASE which is the collection of related FILES.

Also we tackled the Data Model. Data Model is an organizes data elements and standardizes how the data elements relate to one another. Data models are often used as an aid to communication between the business people defining the requirements for a computer system and the technical people defining the design in response to those requirements. They are used to show the data needed and created by business processes. While Data Modeling  is the process of creating a data model for an information system by applying formal data modeling techniques.

As the discussion goes Prof. Arvin ask as who is the model of penshoppe one of my classmate answered and after my classmate answered he said that a model of a certain organization is one of the key to a success of a certain organization because that model represents that certain organization and an organization only picks whats best for them.
